The Spanish network was established as a forum for cooperation and coordination among the authorities responsible for the environmental protection and programming and managing the Structural Funds and the Cohesion Fund at various levels. Its main objective is to ensure that the environmental issues are included in the activities co-financed by EU funds, as well as to monitor their implementation and compliance with the European environmental legislation.
Just like the Italian network, Red de Autoridades Ambientales, apart from the central authorities also brings together the authorities at the regional level (environmental institutions and regional counterparts of managing authorities), as well as the representatives of Spanish communes and provinces. As in the Italian network, the Spanish platform meets during plenary meetings and meetings of thematic groups.
